About Us
The Area was formed on 12 March 2008 and is an amalgamation of the City of Sydney District Swimming Association Inc. Eastern Suburbs Swimming Association Inc, St George Sutherland District Swimming Association Inc and part of Western Suburbs Swimming Association Inc.
The Area’s objectives [Constitution: Clause 2] are to:
- operate as an Area Swimming Association established under Swimming New South Wales Limited and affiliate in accordance with the constitutions of Swimming Australia Limited and Swimming New South Wales Limited or their successors or assigns;
- conduct, encourage, promote, advance and administer relevant swimming activities within the Area;
- apply the property and capacity of the Association towards the fulfilment and achievement of these Objects;
- collect, distribute and publish information in connection with swimming to its Members;
- promote Area competitions and championships and to the extent relevant, promote and assist in conducting state competitions and championships;
- promote Swimming New South Wales meetings and represent the Area at Swimming New South Wales meetings and forums;
- promulgate and secure uniformity in such rules as may be necessary or appropriate for the management and control of swimming and related activities in the Area; and
- comply with the objects of Swimming New South Wales Limited as listed in its constitution in relation to swimming activities.
Under the Constitution, the Area is run by an [Executive] Committee which is to "act in accordance with the Objects of the Association and shall operate for the mutual benefit of the Association, Members and swimming."': [Constitution: Clause 21.] The composition of the committee is listed at Clause 23 and operation of meetings of the committee is shown at Clauses 25 & 26. In addition, there are Competition, Development and ALEC sub-committees that report through their convenors who are members of the Executive Committee
It is important, therefore, that the Area approve events held by Area Clubs which involve other MetSEA Clubs or Clubs which are members of other Areas. Clubs shall provide the Area Secretary with details of their event and include the program, a listing of responsible persons (e.g. technical officials), and any other relevant information.
The Area considers that its major focus should be on Development. Therefore it will run Development Squads annually for eligible members of the Area. The requirements can be found under our link to Development.
The Area runs Summer and Winter Championships, Speedo Sprint competitions and Development meets. The Area will also support Clubs who wish to hold open meets that do not conflict with National, State and MetSEA meets.
As the Area wishes to remain relevant and provide the competitions and development that Clubs, Coaches and Members want, the Area is interested in your ideas. Please email the Area Executive member who is responsible for your idea or the Secretary who will pass on the idea as necessary.
